Post 437: Tour of Ammunition Hill-Seniors over 80 years of age need not wait on any lines in Israel- Inspiring Chamber Orchestra Concert- Details of Protest against CUNY speaker-Healthy Vegan Falafel

DESCRIPTION OF TOUR OF AMMUNITION HILL

Join AEPi Alumni Association of Israel in celebrating 50 years of the reunification of Jerusalem – the eternal capital of the Jewish people. Earlier this week we celebrate Yom Yerushalayim, the day in which, 50 years ago the battle for Jerusalem was won by Israel during the 6 Day War.

Join us as we have a special guided tour of the historical site where one of the major battles took place over Jerusalem. The guided tour tells the story of the battle on Ammunition Hill. During the tour we will walk the paths of the paratroopers who fought here. We will talk about the morals that guided the soldiers here during this crucial battle: heroism, courage, initiative and more.

Following the tour, for those who are interested, we invite you to join us (via lightrail train) as we head over to Shuk Machane Yehuda for lunch.

We invite all alumni to join us with their families or dates for this special event. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ammunition-hill-tour-tickets-30753461431 . Tickets are free

Did you know Israel has a Social Equality Minister Gila Gamliel (Likud)? The Knesset in March 2017  approved the second and third readings of the Social Equality Ministry’s law proposal which would allow Israeli citizens over age 80 to receive public services without waiting in line.

Currently only a few places allow the elderly to skip lines. The new law proposes to turn this benefit into a right. This will save the elderly time which otherwise would have been spent waiting in line, but is, of course, aimed at helping them physically by saving them the effort of standing in line for lengthy periods of time. The new law allows the elderly to skip lines in banks, supermarkets, post offices, cinemas, theaters, events, sports stadiums, galleries, museums, libraries, national gardens, nature reserves, and other places.

Subject: Fwd: URGENT ACTION NEEDED TO GET SARSOUR’S CUNY INVITATION RESCINDED! 3 THINGS WE CAN DO!

Dear Friends of Israel and the Jewish People,

1) It is urgent that we contact Chancellor Milliken’s office via phone calls (646-664-9100) and emails (chancellor@cuny.edu mailto:

chancellor@cuny.edu) demanding that he rescind City University’s invitation to Linda Sarsour to be the commencement speaker at the graduation ceremony of the School of Public Health. As of this morning, his secretary was answering his phone and promising to give him all messages.

The choice of Linda Sarsour as a commencement speaker is shocking and appalling to those of us who are CUNY graduates, who have children attending CUNY AND to those of us who pay NYC and NY State taxes!

Sarsour openly declared that the convicted terrorist, Rasmeah Odeh, is her hero–a woman who killed two people and wounded nine others in a supermarket bombing in Israel. Sarsour virulently supports boycott, sanctions, and divestment against Israel, the aim of which is economically cripple and, ultimately, destroy the Jewish state. Sarsour masquerades as a feminist but has used violent and obscene language to denigrate women who have spoken out about the mistreatment of women by Islamists. Sarsour has publicly said that feminism cannot include those women who believe that Israel should exist as a Jewish state. Sarsour claims she is a feminist even as she defends Sharia Law which severely restricts women’s freedom. Sarsour is free to express herself….but given her discriminatory and anti-Semitic views, she should not be given a platform to speak at a taxpayer-funded institution that serves ALL people in this city and state. We are also shocked that the commencement ceremony of the CUNY School of Public Health is being held on June 1st, a major Jewish holiday. The date should be changed.
2) Calls should also be made to Governor Cuomo at 212-257-6405 and 518-474-8390 (in Albany). Demand that all resources at his disposal be used to rescind the invitation extended to Linda Sarsour, a virulent unapologetic supporter of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel which has as its ultimate goal the destruction of the State of Israel. It was Governor Cuomo who said, “If you boycott Israel, we will boycott you.”

3) Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who is at the forefront of the fight to get Sarsour’s CUNY invitation rescinded, Nonie Darwish and others will be speaking at a demonstration, spearheaded by Pamela Geller, in front of the CUNY administrative offices at 217 East 42nd St., NYC on Thursday, May 25 from 12-2 p.m. We hope to see you there.

In the words of Jeff Wiesenfeld, “This is a seminal moment in which lack of action will bring regret.”

Falafel Chickpea Patties Recipe

Healthy Vegan Falafel

Healthy vegan falafel recipe, without deep frying, GF flour or eggs and with lots of fresh parsley!

Author: Ruxandra Micu

Cuisine: Middle Eastern

Serves: 20+ falafels

Ingredients

  • 2 400g cans boiled chickpea (You can use dry too, but if you want to have these chickpea patties ready in 25 minutes, then you should use canned chickpeas. If you’ll use dry chickpeas, you have to soak them overnight)
  • 2 Tbsps  ground flax seeds
  • 1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 carrot, grated omitted
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 6 garlic cloves, mashed
  • 4 Tbsps chickpea flour, or any other type of flour- I left out
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 Tbsps tahini paste
  • oil (3-4 Tbsps) for frying

Instructions

  1. Add boiled chickpeas in the food processor and blend well until they have a paste-like consistency.

  2. Put them in a large bowl and blend in all the other ingredients, except oil.

  3. Heat some oil in a non-stick frying pan or heat oil on a paper lined tray in the oven.

  4. Remove tray

  5. Make the patties – Here’s the trick. Use a tea leak holder with the tiny openings in the sides. Frill the tea leak holder with the mixture just OVER the capacity. Cover and squeeze the holder closed. Several drops of liquid will come out. Your parsley has been added to the mixture before hand- 1 Tbsps per patty.

  6. Fry them 2 minutes on each side.or bake/

  7. Put the falafels on a plate covered with a paper towel, in order to absorb all excess oil.

  8. Serve!
